Responsible AI Use
& Our Sustainability Efforts
The way we fuel our bodies matters, and so does the way I run this business.
At Kate Lyman Nutrition, we believe meaningful change doesn’t come from being perfect, but from intentional. That goes for how we eat, how we coach, and how we show up in the world. Intention and communication are the foundation of KLN.
We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact while still providing the high-quality, evidence-based, personalized support our clients expect. That means being thoughtful about the tools and tech we use (like artificial intelligence) to help us create better resources, systems, and content behind the scenes.
As a team, we follow the Good Steward Principle set forth by Shae O. Omonijo:
Here’s how we’re putting that into action:
Mindful Tech Use
We use AI tools in a limited nature, with purpose and intention, and with limited generative AI usage. We keep things efficient by minimizing prompts where possible, always aiming for quality over quantity, and only using AI in our back end business systems, with most of that usage via local models.
And most importantly: We never use AI to automate coaching check-ins, client communication, or replace real connection — just to streamline behind-the-scenes business operations. Our coaching is based on real communication and relies on our personal experience and expertise as coaches, something that AI cannot replace. As such, you will never find any AI usage in any client communication.
Offsetting Our Digital Footprint
We offset the estimated annual carbon impact of our AI usage for our entire team through a recurring annual donation to Wren, a trusted organization focused on climate solutions.
We also build low-impact habits into our own lives and work culture.
Sustainability in Nutrition
We coach our clients out of “all or nothing” mindsets. including around food and sustainability. That means offering doable, imperfect, and meaningful shifts like eating more plant-based meals, reducing food waste, or buying local when possible.
Transparency & Learning
We don’t have it all figured out, but we’re committed to doing our best as coaches and leaders in the nutrition space. Whether it’s through our coaching, our sustainability efforts, or navigating these new waves of technology, we will continue to show up with intention.
Sustainability in our nutrition is never about just food.
