Nutrition Coach Position at KLN

We are dedicated to high-quality, highly individualized nutrition coaching that helps clients build habits and behaviors they can sustain long-term and supports their overall relationship with food and knowledge along the way.

Our approach is deeply client-centered. We prioritize clear communication, client autonomy, and evidence-led strategies that work in the real world, where stress, travel, family demands, and changing circumstances are the norm.

KLN was born in 2015 and we’ve spent over a decade proving that “one-size-fits-all” approaches don’t create lasting change and only further the harm of diet culture. Instead, we provide thoughtful, science-backed coaching that meets clients where they are and evolves with them over time.

Our team is committed to continuous learning, collaboration, and delivering the kind of coaching experience that helps clients feel supported and successful far beyond simply hitting macro targets.

If you’re the kind of coach who loves nuance, cares deeply about their clients, and wants to keep getting better at what you do, you may feel very at home at KLN. Read on for a job description and, if interested, start your application.

If you’re excited but not sure you check every box, apply anyway. We care most about coaching skill, curiosity, and values alignment!

    • Evidence-led, always. Our coaching is grounded in nutrition science and behavior change research — not trends, fads, or quick-fix approaches. As coaches, we are thoughtful and critical consumers of information, and we take responsibility for staying up to date, questioning claims, and communicating nuance clearly. We also help our clients build these same skills so they feel more confident navigating nutrition information on their own.

    • Growth-oriented coaching. We believe great coaching is a craft that requires ongoing skill development. We actively engage in learning, seek feedback, and refine our coaching skills and knowledge.

    • Client-centered coaching. Every client is treated with respect and positive regard. We create safe, supportive spaces for clients to make progress without judgment and we don’t talk negatively about our clients as we understand everyone is going through different personal circumstances.

    • Commitment to the long game. We care about sustainable change over short-term outcomes. Our goal is to help clients develop skills, habits, and tools they can carry with them for life - without needing to track their food long term.

    • Team collaboration. We are a close-knit team that communicates regularly, participates in case discussions, and learns from one another. Collaboration is central to how we coach, grow, and support both our clients and each other. We share ideas, ask questions, and engage with the team, always striving to improve the quality of our coaching.

    • Intentional boundaries. We show up fully for our clients while maintaining professional boundaries to protect both coach and client relationships.

    • Prioritizing continued education. We prioritize team-wide continuing education and also support coaches in pursuing additional areas of professional development that align with their interests.

  • An ideal candidate will:

    • Have 2+ years of professional nutrition coaching experience managing a consistent client roster from onboarding through offboarding. This is not a role for early-career coaches or interns.

    • Have education or formal training in nutrition and behavior change science (HMCC preferred).

    • Have a track record of strong client retention and relationship-building skills

    • Be comfortable learning and using tech tools such as Apotheo, Notion, Loom, and Voxer to deliver high-quality coaching efficiently.

    • Actively participate in team collaboration, including case discussions, continuing education, and shared problem-solving alongside investing in the success of KLN as a whole.

    • Communicate clearly and confidently through written and video formats, with an emphasis on thoughtful, individualized responses.

    • Have the capacity and availability to manage at least 20 clients, with the intention and support to grow toward a 40-client roster over time.

    • Be deeply invested in ongoing growth as a coach, including continued education, feedback, and skill refinement. This role is not a fit for coaches who are content staying static in their approach.

    • An extra bonus: You bring a specialty or population focus you’re passionate about supporting (e.g., athletes, pregnancy/postpartum, busy parents, chronic dieters, neurodivergent clients).

    1. Item Coaches with less than two years of professional coaching experience.

    2. Early-career coaches, interns, or those who haven’t yet managed a full roster of clients.

    3. Coaches looking for a short-term role or a stepping stone rather than a long-term home with a close-knit team.

    4. Individuals primarily interested in growing their own business or brand alongside this role.

    5. Coaches who prefer strict protocols, structured responses, or templated approaches over individualized decision-making.

    6. Anyone resistant to an evidence-first approach. There is no room on our team for pseudoscience.

    7. Coaches uncomfortable with frequent team communication, collaboration, and feedback.

    • This is a 1099 contractor role, starting part-time with the opportunity to move into full-time after a probationary period.

    • Compensation starts at $140 per client per month with room to grow.

    • Two team-wide offline weeks per year (one in the spring and one in the fall), during which all KLN work and communication is paused to support rest and recovery.

    • A yearly team retreat, typically held in Mexico, focused on continuing education, collaboration, and team connection. Attendance is required as in-person time is an important part of our team culture. Coaches cover their flights; KLN covers accommodations, meals, and planned activities.

    • Weekly client communication is delivered primarily through thoughtful written and/or video responses (no standing client calls). This role requires strong written communication and comfort coaching without live sessions.

    • A supportive, collaborative team environment with monthly Power Hours (our continuing education sessions) and ongoing case study discussions in our group Voxer. While online coaching can be isolating, our team stays connected and invested in one another’s growth and wellbeing.

    • Occasional opportunities to contribute to the KLN blog or content if you’re interested (not required, but appreciated).

    • All new clients are onboarded and matched by Kate, allowing coaches to focus fully on delivering a high-quality coaching experience from thorough onboarding to engaged weekly check-in support and intentional offboarding.

    • Access to established systems, resources, and team expertise so you can focus on coaching rather than marketing, sales, or administrative work.

  • Our hiring process is designed to ensure strong alignment for both the coach and our KLN team. Selected candidates can expect the following steps:

Step 1: Written application. (We review applications on a rolling basis.)

Step 2: Interview with Kate and our Head Coach, Diana

Step 3: Example client communication task (paid)

Step 4: Final conversation and reference checks

As part of the process, we may request references from past employers and, when possible, past clients to ensure experience and coaching style align with our standards.
